REED, Francis J. -- Francis J. REED, 88, of Washington, Iowa, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2007, at Parkview Manor in Wellman, following a lengthy illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. James Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ed O'Melia officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
Visitation began at noon today at Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today, with a prayer service set for 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.
A memorial in the name of Francis J. REED has been established to Hospice of Iowa City.
Mr. REED was born Oct. 10, 1919, in Washington, the son of Harry and Rose SMITH REED. He married Clara DOBRAS June 25, 1946, at the Catholic church in Fairfield. She died Oct. 8, 2005.
Mr. REED was employed by Cargill for 30 years and also worked at Glandon DX.
He served in World War II, with the 125th Army Calvary (sic) in Europe.
He was a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Red Horse Association.
Survivors include three sons: Allen REED of Washington, Don REED and wife Colleen of Washington and Gale REED of Washington; one daughter: Barbara RAHE of Tuscola, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bernard and Hubert; and sisters, Alice, Willis and Mamie.
