Fri., Feb. 10, 2006.Robert Willis Newlon, 64, formerly of Fairfield, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at his home near Sandy Creek, N.C., following a long bout with cancer.
A memorial service will be held at a later date on his acreage. The body will be cremated.
Memorials to his local hospice may be sent in care of Mrs. Robert Newlon, 101 Joe Baldwin Drive, Sandy Creek 28451.
Mr. Newlon was born May 29, 1941, in Fairfield, the son of Willis and Margaret Rusk Newlon.
Mr. Newlon graduated from Fairfield High School in 1959. He then joined the U.S. Army and served in Korea. After military service he returned to Fairfield and graduated from Parsons College. He became a school teacher specializing in math and history. He taught in Wisconsin, Florida and North Carolina and received his master’s degree from North Carolina/Western University.
Mr. Newlon was a former member of Fairfield First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his mother; his wife, Bonita; one daughter Eve Ann Freeman; one son Matthew Newlon; two grandsons; four stepchildren; and one sister Mary E. Fleig.
He was preceded in death by his father.
