Mon., March 6, 2006Fern Irene Martin, age 86, of 804 West Washington Ave., Fairfield died at her home at 11:30 P.M. Saturday, March 4, 2006.
Born on April 28, 1919 near Four Corners (rural Lockridge), Iowa. She was the daughter of Ernest G. and Addie Carlson Aronson.
Fern grew up in the Four Corners community. She married Swan Martin on March 16, 1942 at Glendale, California. They lived their entire married life in the Fairfield community.
Fern was a nurse’s aid at the Jefferson County Hospital, partnering with her sister-in-law Frances Martin in caring for patients. She also enjoyed babysitting and caring for children.
She enjoyed baking and cooking, crocheting and taking care of kids. Fern was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Deceased family members include her husband on December 13, 2003, her son Terry “Whitey” Martin, plus 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Survivors include her daughter Jeanie and husband Tom Harwood of Danville; 1 son Ron Martin of Fairfield; 2 grandsons Keith Harwood of Danville and Clint Martin of Fairfield; 1 great granddaughter Lindsey Harwood and 1 brother Harlan Aronson of Bettendorf and 1 sister Evelyn Whiting of Salem.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Fairfield with Pastor Marvin Robeck. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the Raymond Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Hospice of Washington County, The New Swede Lutheran Church, or to the First Lutheran Church.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of the Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
