James “Jim” E. Manning, 66, of Mount Pleasant died Tuesday evening, Feb. 21, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City.

A service is set for 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Jeffrey Crawford officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Wayland with full military rites conducted by the Henry County Honor Guard.

Family visitation will begin at 10 a.m. at the church Saturday. Memorials may be directed to Parkinson Research.

Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Manning was born March 22, 1939, in Wayland, the son of Henry E. and Mazie W. Horning Manning. He married Mary Ann Hawkins Sept. 25, 1965, in Nauvoo, Ill.

Mr. Manning attended Greenwood School and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1959. He served in the Army from 1961-1963. He worked for John Blow Masonry in New London for 24 years and retired in November of 2005.

Mr. Manning enjoyed the outdoors, mushroom hunting, fishing, feeding the birds and squirrels, the Iowa Hawkeyes and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Michael Manning of Seattle, Wash.; seven sisters, Mary Ann Dupree, Barbara Schenk, Darlene Magdefrau, all of Mount Pleasant, Lucille Hudson of Hillsboro, Kay Carey and Frances Magdefrau, both of Washington, and Charlene Ragan of Oxnard, Calif.; and one brother, Earl “Bud” Manning of Mount Pleasant.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
