CHEZUM, Suzanne -- Suzanne CHEZUM, 87, of Fairfield, formerly of Birmingham, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.

A service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Family visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Harry CHEZUM Endowment of the Fairfield Public Library in care of 713 Kimball Ave., Iowa City 52245.

Mrs. CHEZUM was born Jan. 19, 1920, in Birmingham, the daughter of Ilief and Grace TWEEDY BROBSTON. She married Harry LeRoy CHEZUM Oct. 2, 1936, in Fairfield. He died Jan. 12, 1987.

Mrs. CHEZUM lived most of her life in Jefferson County. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. CHEZUM was a member of the Baptist church.

Survivors include three sons, Joe CHEZUM and wife Peggy of Iowa City, Allen CHEZUM and wife Suzie of Des Moines and Steve CHEZUM of Rockaway, N. Y.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Bill BROBSTON of New London.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Betty REYNOLDS, Mavis LISTEBARGER, Dorothy WINFREY, Lola REYNOLDS and Mildred HESTON; and one brother, Richard BROBSTON.

CHEZUM, Suzanne -- Suzanne (BROBSTON) CHEZUM, 87, passed away quietly on the morning of September 7, 2007, at Nelson Nursing Home, 807-809 West Taylor, Fairfield, Iowa.

Suzanne CHEZUM was born January 19, 1920, to Ilief and Grace (TWEEDY) BROBSTON in Birmingham, Iowa. She was one of eight children. She grew up on her parents farm, west of Birmingham, Iowa, and attended school through the 8th grade.

She married Harry CHEZUM October 2, 1936, in Fairfield, Iowa. They made their first home in East Moline, Illinois, and later in Port Byran, Illinois. Harry CHEZUM served in France and Germany during World War II. After the war, Harry and Suzanne purchased a small farm near Brighton, Iowa, and farmed there for a few years. Later on, they owned and operated the Ranch Supper Club on West Burlington Street for several years. After selling the Ranch Supper Club, Harry went into plumbing, and home remodeling, and Suzanne was a full-time homemaker. In retirement, Harry and Suzanne maintained a cabin at Robert's Park near Keosauqua where they spent a lot of their time in the summer months, and they traveled frequently to visit relatives in Texas in the winter months. Harry CHEZUM died on January 12, 1987, in Beaumont, Texas. After Harry's death, Suzanne moved to 607 West Monroe in Fairfield, which is where she resided until going into Nelson Nursing Home in October of 1998.

Suzanne took pride in her homemaking skills. She did a great deal of sewing and handicrafts. She liked to dance and to socialize. She enjoyed attending football games when her sons were playing. She especially enjoyed the company of her sisters and brother who were avid card players. She participated in a bowling league for some years. She enjoyed doing cross-word puzzles and taking walks in her later years.

Suzanne was preceded in death by: her parents, her husband; one brother, Richard BROBSTON; and five sisters: Betty REYNOLDS, Mavis LISTEBARGER, Dorothy WINFREY, Lola REYNOLDS, and Mildred HESTON.

Suzanne is survived by her three sons: Joe CHEZUM of Iowa City, Iowa; Allen CHEZUM of Des Moines, Iowa; and Steve CHEZUM of Rockaway, New York. She is also survived by one brother, William (Bill) BROBSTON of New London, Iowa. Suzanne is survived by 9 grandchildren: Kristi DOUGHERTY of San Diego, California; Kyle THOMPSON, Kevin CHEZUM living in California; Nanette CHEZUM of Denver, Colorado; Jeannie CHEZUM of Jacksonville, Florida; Eric CHEZUM of Miami, Florida; Kimberly CHEZUM of St. Louis, Missouri; Jason CHEZUM of Iowa City, Iowa; and Marcus CHEZUM of Iowa City, Iowa. She had 8 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be sent to the Harry CHEZUM Endowment at the Fairfield Public Library, Fairfield, Iowa.
