Frank L. "Nick" HELFENSTINE, 85, lifetime resident of Jefferson County and a well-known construction worker, passed away Monday night, June 3 at 8 p.m. in Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning, June 6 at 10 a.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Bartruff officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will meet friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
He had been seriously ill for the past several months. The family home is at 801 W. Briggs. He was a member of Eagles Lodge (sic - Aerie/Club) and Isaac Walton League.
HELFENSTINE was born May 5, 1889 in Jefferson County, the son of Jesse and Laura CASE HELFENSTINE. On February 24, 1915 he married Meryle SHIPLER who survives. He also leaves one daughter, Mrs. Vivian RENSHAW of Route 3, Bloomfield; four brothers, Ernest, Greeley, Colo.; James and Russell of Lockridge and William of Fairfield; two sisters, Mrs. Kitty ARCHIBALD, Lockridge, and Mrs. Myrtle JOHNSON of Birmingham. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
