WELSH, Robert E. -- Robert E. WELSH, 83, of Bettendorf, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center, East Campus in Davenport.

A funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Bettendorf. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf.

Memorials may be made to Dr. Motto Kidney Dialysis Foundation.

Mr. WELSH was born April 13, 1924, in Fairfield, the son of Howard and Almeda MUNSON WELSH. He married Julia O'NEILL Dec. 15, 1945, in Monmouth, Ill. She died Feb. 10, 2000.

Mr. WELSH graduated from Parsons College in Fairfield with a bachelor's degree. He was employed by Mansfield Tire & Rubber Company of Mansfield, Ohio, and also worked for Union Fork & Hoe Company in Columbus, Ohio, where he was the district sales manager for the Midwest territory.

Mr. WELSH served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1942-1945.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2271 of Fairfield, the American Legion and the Elks Lodge.

He was a sports fan.

Survivors include three sons, Michael WELSH and wife Fran of Rockford, Ill., Dan WELSH of LeClaire and Tim WELSH and wife Bettie of New Caney, Texas; four daughters, Ellen WELSH of Bettendorf, Loretta THOMPSON and husband Larry of Bettendorf, Julianne KOUT and husband Bill of Lawler and Joanne GROVE and husband Jim of Findlay, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nita SNOOK of Laguna Niguel, Calif.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Vivian McMICAN.
