WEHRMAN, Lester -- Lester WEHRMAN, 77, of Laurel, died Sunday evening, April 8, 2007, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.
Visitation and a celebration of his life will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Cremation will follow.
Memorials may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice building fund or Quakerdale. Online condolences may be sent via www.mitchellfh.com .
Mr. WEHRMAN was born July 27, 1929, at his family's farm, the son of Richard and Nellie WAGNER WEHRMAN. He married Betty COULTER July 27, 1952, at St. John UCC near Haverhill.
Mr. WEHRMAN attended school one year at Laurel and then Van Cleve, graduating from Van Cleve High School in 1948. He and his wife resided on the Century farm all of their married lives. Mr. WEHRMAN drove a truck and then purchased a semitrailer to haul cattle for K-Line of Newton in 1970. In May 1988, he started working for Ferguson Grain and retired in April 1997.
Mr. WEHRMAN was a member of 4-H and was a 4-H leader for the Van Cleve Wranglers. He played and coached AAU basketball. He was president of the Independent Logan Township School Board and the Laurel Lion's Club.
He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, planting sweet corn and popcorn, shelling walnuts and making horseradish.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Gary and wife Becky of Marshalltown, Sherry of Fairfield and Larry and wife Cathy of rural Laurel; four grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Wanda BILLMAN; two brothers, Elmer and Marvin; and one infant grandson.
