STEARNS, William Edwin -- William Edwin STEARNS, 69, of Weatherford, Texas, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2007, in a Fort Worth hospital.

A service was held Jan. 22 at Biggers Funeral Chapel in Lake Worth, Texas. Burial was in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Mr. STEARNS was born near Libertyville, the son of William and Erma ELSENSOHN STEARNS.

He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1956 and attended Parsons College.

Mr. STEARS retured from the U.S. Air Force in 1977. He was a fighter pilot and flight instructor, and during his military career of more than 22 years, he served in Vietnam.

After retirement, Mr. STEARNS continued to fly corporate airplanes and an air ambulance for several years. He also operated a trucking business and a real estate mortgage business and was a real estate agent.

He was a NASCAR fan, a sports enthusiast and a Republican.

Survivors include his wife, Dorene A. STEARNS; one daughter, Samantha A. STEARNS; two sons, William D. "Doug" STEARNS and David STEARNS; and one granddaughter.
