STRATHMAN, Shirley Dee -- Shirley Dee STRATHMAN, 76, of 1148 Crestmore Way, died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.
Memorial services will be held 11 A.M. Friday, May 25, 2007, at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia with Rev. Jim Stiles officiating. There will be no visitation. The body has been donated to the University of Iowa Anatomical Gift Program. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or donor's choice.
Shirley was born January 10, 1931, in Fairfield, Iowa the daughter ofJulius and Ruth (HALE) HILLEARY. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1949 where she was active in the National Honor Society, Pep Club President, Student Council and the First Girls Glee Club. Following graduation, Shirley attended Parsons College for 1 year. She would later attend and graduate from North Iowa Area Community College and the University of Northern Iowa.
Shirley married Paul STRATHMAN October 15, 1950, in Fairfield. She taught in the Mason City school system from 1968 to 1991. Shirley was a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Mason City Women's Club, PEO Chapter LB, Delta Kappa Gamma, Faculty Wives and a past Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed knitting, bridge club, puzzles and spending time with her family.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Paul STRATHMAN of Mason City, daughter, Susan KIEL and husband Bob of Thompson, Steven STRATHMAN and wife Pam of Edina, Minnesota, and Michael STRATHMAN and wife Sharon of Tempe, Arizona; 8 grandchildren; sister, Joy (Bruce) CURTIS of East Lansing, Michigan; brothers, James (Jackie DARR) HILLEARY of Placentia, California, Jack (Paula) HILLEARY of La Selva Beach, California, and Morris HILLEARY of Palm Springs, California; many nieces and nephews.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, Julius and Ruth HILLEARY.
