Dorothea Emma PECH 'Dot' SHORT

Dorothea Emma PECH "Dot" SHORT, 96, of Ottumwa Good Samaritan Health and Rehab Center, formerly of Cantril, passed away at 8:35 P.M. Friday Dec. 29, 2006 at Ottumwa Regional Health Center.

She was born April 11, 1910 to Fred and Mary Theresa BODE PECH in Algona, IA. She married Wallace Vance SHORT Sept. 12, 1935. He preceded her in death in March 1959.

Dot attended schools in Warren, MN and Batavia and Fairfield, IA, graduating from Fairfield High School in 1928. She attended Parsons College, graduated from Thompson's Beauty School, Des Moines Oct. 1, 1934, and worked at Fredrick's Beauty Salon in Ottumwa. She started her own beauty salon in Cantril Feb. 1, 1925 and continued for 57 years before retiring. She moved to Hillside Apartments, Ottumwa in 1991.

She had been active in Cantril United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, was a 63-year member and past president of American Legion Auxiliary, a member of Van Buren County Historical Society and a charter member of Cantril Grass Roots Association. In Ottumwa she had been active in the Newcomer's Club, Past Presidents of American Legion Auxiliary and all Hillside Apartments activities.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat (Larry) GOODEN of Ottumwa, a granddaughter, Dana (Terry) SCHROEDER of McKenney, TX, a grandson David (Gail) GOODEN of Ballwin, MO, three great grandsons, Robbie, Andy and Jake, a great granddaughter, Jade, a brother David (Arlene) PECH of Fairfield and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vance, twin daughters, Delores and Jean, her parents, six brothers, Ted, Robert, William, Louis, Warren, and John PECH and three sisters, Carietta and Mary SHELANGOSKI and Ruth Alice PECH.

Funeral services were at 11 A.M. Tuesday Jan. 2, 2007 in Cantril United Methodist Church, Rev. Jerry Caughron and Rev. Paul Rekward officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Cantril.

Memorials to Cantril United Methodist Church, Ottumwa Good Samaritan Center activities program or Maple Grove Cemetery may be left at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua or mailed to the family at 911 South Sheridan Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501.
