McCARTY, Richard G. -- Richard G. McCARTY, 70, of Bonaparte, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, at home.
A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Mark Caston officiating. Burial, with military rites by American Legion Sargeant-Oswelier Post No. 563 of Bonaparte, will be in Bonaparte Cemetery.
Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6-7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at PO Box 232, Bonaparte 52620.
Mr. McCARTY was born March 8, 1936, in Mount Zion, the son of Thomas and Madeline SLUTTS McCARTY. He married Velva ROWE; they later divorced. He married Linda MORRIS Dec. 24, 1970, in Oquawka, Ill.
Mr. McCARTY lived in Mount Zion, Stockport and, for many years, Bonaparte. He was a self-employed carpenter and had worked at Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean conflict.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Cindy CHAMBERS of Bonaparte; one son, Rob McCARTY of Keosauqua; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Les McCARTY of Pittsburg, Gary McCARTY of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Donnie McCARTY of Monroe, La.; and three sisters, Audrey of Colorado; Verna COLEMAN of Bonaparte and Carolyn GASKELL of Bonaparte.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Robert, Arthur and James McCARTY; and one sister, LaVena DUNCAN.
