MAJOR, Drexel -- Drexel MAJOR, 78, of Batavia, died Saturday, Feb. 3, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Iowa City.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church in Batavia, with the Revs. Thomas Shipley and Charles Courtney officiating. Interment will be in Batavia Cemetery.
Open visitation will begin at noon Tuesday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, with family present from 6-8 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to Calvary Baptist Church or the Batavia Library.
Mr. MAJOR was born April 21, 1928, in Ottumwa, the son of Mark and Hester PARCEL MAJOR. He married Dorothy BRADSHAW Feb. 1, 1947.
Mr. MAJOR was raised and educated in the Ottumwa area. He was previously employed by John Morrell & Co. in Ottumwa for more than 20 years. Later, he was a truck driver for Monroe Feed Center in Monroe also for more than 20 years. He retired in 1991.
Mr. MAJOR was a former member of the Batavia Volunteer Fire Department.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Judy DOVICO and husband Larry of Batavia and Joan PUMPHREY of Omaha, Neb.; two sons, Randy MAJOR and wife Karen of Batavia and Bob MAJOR and wife Candy of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Phyllis KITCHEN of Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Beverly LEAZER, Shirley ROTENBURGER and Janice DROZ; and one infant brother, Phillip.
