HAWK, Mary Elizabeth -- Mary Elizabeth HAWK, 93, of Fairfield, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2007, at Jefferson County Hospital.

A funeral was held this morning at Raymond Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dave Peterson officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of Fairfield or Bargain Box in Fairfield.

Mrs. HAWK was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Jefferson County, the daughter of Charles and Minnie SMITH JONES. She married Palmer Joseph HAWK Oct. 19, 1940, at her parents' home near Pleasant Plain. He died April 2, 1996.

Mrs. HAWK was a graduate of Fairfield High School.

She was an avid reader and quilter. She made many quilts in her lifetime, including more than 115 baby quilts that she donated to the Bargain Box. She was a 4-H Club leader, a member of First United Methodist Church, a member of Lend-A-Hand Club and a volunteer at the Bargain Box.

Survivors include two sons, Charles HAWK and wife Faith of Greenfield, Ind., and James HAWK and wife Patricia of Pleasant Plain; two daughters, Judy MAY of Ventura, Calif., and Janet MELCHERS and husband Sonny of Fairfield; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Riley JONES.
