Mildred I. Channel, 93, formerly of Libertyville, died Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville, with the Rev. Michael Renken officiating.

Interment will follow in Fell Cemetery in Libertyville.

Family visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mrs. Channel was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Birmingham, the daughter of Pearl A. and Mary Grammar Smith. She married Herschel Channel. He died in 1979.

Mrs. Channel graduated from Birmingham High School and lived most of her life in the Libertyville area. She was employed at Universal Producing Company. Later, she and her husband owned and operated the Libertyville Cafe for a number of years. She was later employed at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Mrs. Channel was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Her hobbies included baking pies and rolls and making candy, as well as watching birds and flowers.

Survivors include two children, Mary Ann Eklund and husband Larry of Batavia and Roger Channel and wife Terri of Libertyville; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Smith of Keosauqua.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Ella Mae "Smitty" Reed, Bernice Collins and Shirley Norris; and three brothers, Roland "Red" Smith, John Smith and an infant, Hugh.
