ERNST, Alice Irene -- Alice Irene ERNST, 91, of Fairfield, died Sunday, December 31, 2006, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

The funeral and interment will occur in Illinois.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Free United Methodist Church youth program at 201 N. Court St., Fairfield 52556; Cherish Our Children International-Children First Organization in Kenya, Africa at PO Box 540007, Houston, TX 77254 or at cherishourchildren.org; or a charity of choice.

Mrs. ERNST was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Port Byron, Ill., the daughter of Arthur and Elfrieda ANDERSON JOHNSON. She married Edwin Joseph ERNST Sept. 21, 1946. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. ERNST earned an English degree from Augustana College and a master's degree in education from the University of Illinois. She taught grammar and high school students English, drama and piano for nine years before moving to Chicago where she met her husband.

Mrs. ERNST was a volunteer reader for children at the library. She was a organist and choir member in the various church communities to which she belonged in East Moline, West Chicago and Arlington Heights, Ill. She enjoyed travling.

Survivors include four children, Kenneth ERNST of Surprise, Ariz., Robert ERNST and wife Karen of Arlington Heights, Ill., Judith ERNST of Indianapolis, Ind., and Stephen ERNST and wife Julie of Fairfield; and eight grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.
