COREY, Hazel L. -- Hazel L. COREY, 98, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, March 5, 2007, at Washington County Hospital following a short illness.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Julie Poulsen officiating. Interment will be in Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Open visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to United Methodist Church in Washington or Halcyon House.

Mrs. COREY was born March 2, 1909, in rural Morning Sun, the daughter of John August and Ora Emily WALKER VENGHAUS. She married Elwyn Wesley COREY Aug. 13, 1930, at her parents' home in Mount Union. He died in 1984.

Mrs. COREY attended school in Mount Union and graduated from Mount Union High School in 1925 as the valedictorian of her class. She helped her husband with their farming operation.

Mrs. COREY was a member of United Methodist Church in Washington, United Methodist Women, Help Each Other Neighborhood Club, Halcyon House Guild Board, American Home Chapter of Fortnightly and Chapter EI of TTT. She also belonged to the Cars, Clothes and Jewelry Club and the Sunshine Girls Coffee Club.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Warren E. COREY; and one brother, Cecil VENGHAUS.
