CORNICK, Cloyd Elmer -- Cloyd Elmer CORNICK, 94, of Indianola, died Sunday, March 18, at The Village Health Center after prolonged complications of pneumonia. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 21, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services.

Cloyd E. CORNICK was born to Elmer and Mina BEARD CORNICK at Mt. Union, Iowa on July 16, 1912. He graduated from Mt. Union High School and attended Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa, He married Una R. SMITH on November 30, 1934 in Rock Island, IL. He farmed in Henry and Jefferson Counties and lived in the Fairfield, Iowa community for over 50 years. He and his late wife Una wintered in Sun City, AZ for 30 years before moving to The Village in 1998.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fairfield; the Masonic Lodge of Mt. Union, and past Master; the Clinton Masonic Lodge (Fairfield); past member of the Walton Golf Club (Fairfield); active in Jefferson County 4-H as a leader; and instrumental in organizing Babe Ruth Baseball in Fairfield. He was a pilot for the Civil Air Patrol during World War II.

Cloyd was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He ejnoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa University and ISU sports, golf, bowling, horseshoes, coaching Babe Ruth Baseball, crossword puzzles, reading, traveling, his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews, and friends.

Mr. CORNICK was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Una CORNICK in February of 2005; his parents; a daughter, Josephine (Jo) MOTTET of Bettendorf; three brothers, Dale B. CORNICK of Pekin, IL, Francis CORNICK (infant), and Ralph CORNICK of Creston, IA.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, James M. and Sue A. CORNICK of Des Moines, IA; a sister, Ruby McGOHAN, 99, of Mount Pleasant; five grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; and 15 nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Good Shepherd Fund at The Village in Indianola. A private burial of cremains of both Cloyd CORNICK and his wife Una will be held at a later date at the Trinity Cemetery in Henry County.
