Marie BUTTERY, age 88, formerly of Ollie, died Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 21 at the Prairie View United Methodist Church near Ollie with Pastor Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Burial will follow at the Ollie Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon on Monday, February 20 at the Fremont Funeral Chapel with family receiving friends between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. Monday evening.

Eva Marie BUTTERY was born July 18, 1917 in rural Batavia, Iowa the daughter of Edward Roy PARRETT and Rachel Christina Thronson PARRETT. She attended school in Batavia and received her teacher’s training at Fairfield High School, graduating in 1936. She taught school for two years in Batavia and two years in Ollie.

On March 5, 1939, she was united in marriage to Albert BUTTERY at rural Batavia, IA. They owned and operated Buttery Grocery in Ollie for 39 years until the time of their retirement in 1978.

Marie was very active in building the Prairie View Church and wrote the prayer for the workers which was placed in the church. She enjoyed her family and friends, traveling, gardening, reading, cooking, flowers, pets, and was noted for her smile. She was a member of Prairie View United Methodist Church and U.M.W., Grandmother’s Club, 50-year member of the Eastern Star, and the Ollie Betterment Club.

She is survived by her a son, Dan (Judy) BUTTERY of Fairfield, and her daughter Barbara (James) JOHNSON of Oskaloosa, five grandchildren, Brian (Tara) BUTTERY, Curt (Ryannon) BUTTERY, Laura (Robert) KIBBE, Greg JOHNSON, & Lynne JOHNSON, a great-grandson, Hayden BUTTERY, two sisters-in-law, Opal PARRETT of Wildwood, Fl, and Ruth BUTTERY of Cedar Rapids, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert on November 19, 2000, two brothers, Arnold and David PARRETT, and a sister Esther WHITAKER.

Memorials may be made in her name to Prairie View United Methodist Church or to Alzheimer’s Research.
