Leonard J. “Polk” WEAVER, 96, of Birmingham, died at 8:50 p.m. Friday, May 27, 2006, at Nelson Nursing Home in Fairfield.

A service was held this morning at Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham.

Memorials have been established to the Birmingham Fire Department or Birmingham Public Library.

Raymond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. WEAVER was born Nov. 10, 1909, in Hoxie, Kan., the son of Charles Elmer and Eva Step WEAVER. He married Violet BLACK in 1929. He married Helen Irene PICKEREL Jan 23, 1935, in Fairfield. She died March 23, 1994.

Mr. WEAVER lived in Van Buren County most of his life. He grew up in the Stockport community and lived all of his adult life in Birmingham. He farmed in his younger years. He worked in paving and in the factory and foundry at Dexter Company in Fairfield and had worked for the CB&Q and Rock Island railroads. He was the custodian at the Birmingham school for 28 years before his retirement.

Survivors include one grandson.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Harry Charles WEAVER; four brothers, Rex, Fred, Harold and Jim WEAVER; and three sisters, Belle SIMPKINS, Gertie GIBERSON and Virgie KIRBY.
