Madeline Ruth VANLANTSCHOOT, 96, of Fairfield, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006 at the Jefferson County Hospital Living Care Center.
Following her wishes, her body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held at later date.
Madeline was born March 5, 1910 in Mt. Sterling, IA, the daughter of Ednie Thomas and Laura Elizabeth DAVIDSON LEONARD. She was educated in the Bloomfield schools and was valedictorian of her class. Following graduation she moved to Fairfield and was for many years employed as secretary and legal assistant for the Thoma Law Firm. She later worked for Fairfield Aluminum Castings and was secretary to the president of Parsons College. In 1980 she retired to Sun City West, AZ until her return to Fairfield in August 2005.
Known to her friends as Madge, she married George HAMMON at St. Augustins Catholic Church in Des Moines, IA October 30, 1937. George passed away December 31, 1959. She married August VANLANTSCHOOT at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield on July 24, 1968. August passed away February 20, 1974.
She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield, Altar and Rosary Society, P.E.O. Chapter CG, Sun City West, AZ, TTT, the Fairfield Golf and Country Club and the Briarwood Club. She was an avid bridge player and world traveler.
Madge is survived by one nephew and three nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Clell LEONARD and one sister, Alma LINDER.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church building fund or Fairfield Concert Association and may be sent to 207-B Southgate Circle, Fairfield, IA 52556.
Arrangements are in the care of Behner Funeral Home and Crematory.
