Wed., Oct. 4, 2006, p. 10.Peggy OAKMAN, 94, of Fairfield died at 12:52 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2006, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield, with the Rev. Travis Harrison and the Rev. Stephen Higdon officiating. The body has been cremated. Interment of cremains will be at Glade Cemetery in Blandinsville, Ill.
Family visitation will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Memorials may be made to Covenant House, First Christian Church or Southwest Indian Association.
Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Mrs. OAKMAN was born May 1, 1912, in Blandinsville, the daughter of Marion and Minerva Moss Burr HUSTON. She married Roy W. OAKMAN April 8, 1933, in Macomb, Ill.
Mrs. OAKMAN graduated from Blandinsville High School in 1929. She worked at a bakery for one year then attended Western Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb for two years. Mrs. OAKMAN and her husband lived and farmed in Illinois until March of 1951 when they moved to Iowa, where they farmed until he retired at age 65. They moved to Arkansas for two years before moving back to Iowa.
Mrs. OAKMAN worked for 14 years as secretary for the principal at Van Buren schools in Stockport and Keosauqua.
She was a member of First Christian Church. She was a member of Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary and worked at the auxiliary’s Bargain Box.
Survivors include her husband; three children, Ronald Max OAKMAN of Eagan, Minn., Lynda Ann UNKRICH of Fairfield and Raymond Lee OAKMAN of Waconia, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Evelyn LEFFLER; one brother, Ellsworth BURR; and one granddaughter.
