Donald Frederick Niece, 69, of Fairfield, died at 8:17 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, 2006, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Richland United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kim Gates officiating. Burial will be in Richland Friends Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Gould Funeral Home in Richland where the family will be present from 7-8 p.m.

A memorial has been established to Keokuk County Community Endowment Foundation.

Mr. Niece was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Trenton, the son of Charles Frederick and Alta Fern Baust Niece. He married Shirley Lankford June 7, 1959, in Richland. They later divorced.

Mr. Niece attended schools in New London and Eldon and graduated from Richland High School in 1954. He worked at Amana Refrigeration, Golden Sun Seed Co., Blakely Farms and Hormel in Ottumwa and Fremont, Neb. He moved to Fairfield following his retirement.

Mr. Niece was a member of Richland United Methodist Church. He was a former member of Richland Lions Club.

He had raised and trained quarter horses.

Survivors include three children, Michael F. Niece of Tiffan, Nancy A. Cox of Richland and Julie R. Greiner of New Hope, Mo., and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ardith A. Fritchen.
