Earl MCKAY, 91, of Burlington, formerly of Van Buren County, died Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

A graveside service was held this morning at Maple Hill Cemetery at Birmingham, with the Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating.

Memorials may be made to the bone marrow donor program at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham.

Mr. MCKAY was born Feb. 11, 1915, in Mount Ida, Ark., the son of James Robert and Lula Mae Gardner MCKAY. He married Edna CALVIN Aug. 11, 1939, in Lufkin, Texas. She preceded him in death.

Mr. MCKAY grew up working with his father on a 150-acre farm in Texas, where they raised cotton and wheat. He farmed in Keosauqua before moving to Dacona, Colo., in 1957, where he was a heavy equipment operator. He lived in Colorado from 1957 until his retirement when he moved to Burlington.

Mr. MCKAY served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 29th Infantry in Europe. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include one sister, Bobbie MARTIN and one brother, Lloyd MCKAY, both of Stockton, Calif.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Beryl MCKAY, James Robert MCKAY Jr., and Harold MCKAY; and one sister, Eurcell SMITH.
