Max Wesley LEATHERS, 72, formerly of Fairfield passed away Saturday, May 6, 2006, at the hospital near Riverside, California.

Burial with military rights was held at 11 a.m. at the Riverside National Cemetery near Riverside on May 11, 2006. The Millard Jones Mortuary of Morino Valley was in charge of the services.

Max graduated from the Fairfield High School in 1953 and served his country in the air force for 28 years, part of which was in Vietnam where he was exposed to Agent Orange. He had spent time at the Loma Linda, also known as Jerry Pettis Veterans Hospital.

Max was very active in two Masons and Eastern Star chapters where he held many offices. He was honored by these chapters at the services.

Upon Max’s request, the casket will be closed, and eyes and other body parts will be donated so that others may live.

Max was born Dec. 1, 1931 (sic - Dec. 1, 1933, per Jefferson County records), in Fairfield, the son of Forrest W. and June LEATHERS.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Thoms LEATHERS of Marino Valley, California and a son, Michael Wesley LEATHERS of Phelan, California and a sister Jenna Leathers FOSTER of Fairfield. Also surviving is a grandson, Dean Wesley LEATHERS.

He was proceeded in death by his parents and a brother, Capt. Robert Lee LEATHERS on Nov. 18, 1960 near Okinawa.
