Charles E. HUNTER, 67, of rural Fairfield, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at his home.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, with the Rev. Jack Jackson officiating. Interment will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Open visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel, with family present from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial fund has been established.

Mr. HUNTER was born April 21, 1939, in Wapello County, the son of Edward and Vesta Pumphrey HUNTER. He married Judith FISHER Sept. 3, 1960, in Eldon.

Mr. HUNTER was raised and educated in Batavia, graduating form Batavia High School in 1956. He was previously employed by the Rock Island Railroad and John Morrell & Company. He had been a bus driver for the Cardinal school system and hauled livestock for Kevin Jones Trucking Company. He was then employed by Creative Glass and later for Chain and Cable in Fairfield for 17 years. He was employed at McCay Envelope Company in Mount Pleasant for 12 years. He also farmed his entire adult life in Jefferson County.

He enjoyed farming, his family, his family hog roast and square dancing, which he started calling at the American Legion hall in Batavia. He later called for the Rhythm Playboys, Jack Paris and at Old Threshers in Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Dennis HUNTER of Batavia; two daughters, Jodie SHIPLEY of Birmingham and Sandra FARRUGGIO of Cambridge, Wis.; five grandchildren; one brother, William HUNTER of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and one sister, Shirley SCHIPPERS of Terre Haute, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
