Macil Marine HUMPHREY was born May 31, 1921 at the home of her parents, Edith and Henry STARK in SW Henry County, Iowa. Following graduation from Hillsboro High School, she attended Iowa State Teachers’ College. For seven years, Marine taught kindergarten through 12th grade in various rural grade schools in the immediate area.

On December 28, 1946, in Corpus Christi, TX, Marine married Earl C. HUMPHREY. When his Naval enlistment ended in 1948, the couple returned with an infant daughter to rural Mt. Pleasant, where Marine was always most “at home”.

Her primary careers as wife, mother, and daughter were interspersed through the years with employment at factory jobs in Mt. Pleasant. In 1990, Marine retired from her position as clerk in the Sears Catalogue Order Office to become full-time support/caregiver for Earl, who had suffered a stroke. They enjoyed 10 more years together before his death.

Marine is cherished in the memory of her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jim HANNAH; her grandson, Jay HANNAH, wife Andria, and son Zachary; her grandson Brad HANNAH; her niece and nephews; her beloved neighbors; and her
“church family” in the Community of Christ.
