Marcia Elizabeth CARR, 53, of rural Keosauqua, died at 7:10 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2006, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield after a long illness with multiple sclerosis.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Larry Wagner officiating. Cremation will follow the service. The casket will remain closed.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with family present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials to her grandchildren’s education may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 23524 245th St., Keosauqua 52565.

Mrs. CARR was born Dec. 29, 1952, in Fort Madison, the daughter of Carl and Norreene McCracken SCHMITT. She married Melvin L. CARR June 25, 1971, at Sharon Presbyterian Church, north of Farmington.

Mrs. CARR grew up in the Farmington area and graduated as valedictorian of the Harmony High School class of 1971. She was a member of National Honor Society and Order of Rainbow For Girls while in high school. She had worked at Keosauqua Sale Barn, Van Buren County Hospital, the city of Keosauqua, Van Buren County Farm Service Office, Inspection Connection in Fairfield and Cantril Feed and Grain. She also helped her husband on the farm.

Mrs. CARR was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church and Center Chapel united Methodist Church, playing piano and organ for both. She also had attended Heritage Baptist Church in rural Keosauqua.

She enjoyed caring for her flowers, caring for her children and grandchildren and playing the piano and organ at church.

Survivors include her husband; her mother of Farmington; two daughters, Melissa ROTENBURGER and husband Scott of Trenton and Mary Jane MAST and husband Alton of Cantril; six grandchildren; four brothers, Arthur SCHMITT of Carmen, Ill., Roderick SCHMITT of Bonaparte, Sidney SCHMITT of New London and Verne SCHMITT of New London; one sister, Vada LAMPE of Houghton.

She was preceded in death by her father.
