"Fairfield Ledger", Thur., Aug. 22, 1861, Pg. 3, Col. 2

Died – Three miles and a half north of Fairfield, Iowa, Sabbath eve., August 11, 1861, Johny, son of John and Anna M. WALKUP, aged three years, eight months, and three days.

This noble boy left his home in Pennsylvania, with the family, the 25th of November last. After enduring the fatigue of a two weeks journey, he arrived in Fairfield, where he lived until the coming July, when the family removed to their newly built home in the country. The next morning, after surveying the house all around, with an air of satisfaction he said to his sister: “Kate, I’m not going to move anymore; I’m just going to stay here all the time.” The little prattle did move but one. In less than two weeks from that time he was a corpse, and the Prairie Home is desolate and robbed of the little smiling face that made it most attractive. But,

Johny is an angel
Up where the angels stand,
A crown upon his forehead,
A harp within his hand.
