SAD ACCIDENT: With pain we record an accident that happened to Mr. John WALKUP on Tuesday, the 6th inst., and which terminated fatally on Monday last. He was at his coal bank on that day, and when about to return home, his foot slipped and he fell into a shaft 30 feet deep. He was taken out and carried to a house, when it was discovered that some of his ribs were broken, and that he was otherwise injured internally. He was removed to his house as soon as possible. Medical skill could not aid him, and after intense suffering he breathed his last. He leaves a large family, who in their deep affliction have the heartfelt sympathy of the public.
