"Fairfield Ledger", Dec. 16, 1903, Pg. 5, Col. 4

DEATH OF SAMUEL D. JEFFERS.... In this city Wednesday. He was the eldest son of the late James JEFFERS, and passed away at the home of his widowed mother on West Jefferson Street.

Mr. JEFFERS was a native of Ohio, born in Belmont County April 22d, 1844. The family first came to Iowa in 1847, but returned to Ohio two years later. In 1854 its members came to this city, and it has since been their home. Samuel spent the remainder of his life here with the exception of ten years -- from 1864 to 1874 -- when he was in the mining regions of the west. He was a man of kindly impulses, a genial companion, and had many friends in this community where he had lived for almost half a century. The body was buried Friday afternoon, Rev. Thomas Osborn of the Methodist Church conducting the services.
