FORMER FAIRFIELD RESIDENT DIES IN KANSAS. The following notice of the death of Capt. W. T. BURGESS who was postmaster here about 30 years ago, is taken from the "Brighton Enterprise":

"J. L. DOWNS sends us a letter from the manager of the Kansas Sanitarium at Wichita, Kans., informing him of the death of Capt. W. T. BURGESS which occurred in that institution on Sept. 25 from heart failure. His daughter was with him and the funeral was held in that city Sept. 29 in charge of the G.A.R. Post. Captain BURGESS lived in Brighton for many years and enlisted in 1863 and went to the war from here as captain of Co. E, 30th Iowa Inft.. Later he moved to Fairfield where he was postmaster for several years. He was married in Brighton to Katie DOWNS, a daughter of the late George DOWNS."
