Howard R. DORSETT

Howard R. DORSETT, 79, 1106 S. Second St., died at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, 1995, at Jefferson County Hospital.

The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Wotherspoon officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Behner Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to Jefferson County Hospice and ALS Association.

DORSETT was born Sept. 18, 1916, in Nardin, Okla., the son of Albert and Berenice BOYER DORSETT. He graduated from high school in Lamont, Okla., received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture from Oklahoma State University, and completed his graduate work in 1947. He received a Ph.D. in agriculture economics from Iowa State University in Ames in 1957. He married Marie MEADE on Feb. 8, 1947, at First Baptist Church in Houston.

DORSETT was a professor of economics at Parsons College for 25 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Farifield. His honorary fraternities were Phi Kappa Phi, Alpa Zeta, Agricultural Economics Association, and American Economics Association. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Corps, serving in World War II.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Steve of Broken Arrow, Okla., Ron of Smyrna, Ga., David of Ottumwa; a daughter, Jane O'BRIEN of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Dorotha M. McCARVER of Riverside, Calif. His parents preceded him in death.
