EARLY SETTLER PASSES AWAY

William T. WRIGHT, well known resident of Fairfield died Monday at the home of this son Joseph WRIGHT in the College Addition. Mr. WRIGHT's birthday fell on June 28, and on Saturday he would have been 85 years old.

Mr. WRIGHT has seen Iowa grow from a lawless wilderness in possession of Indian and buffalo into a great and prosperous state with large cities connected with nation-wide commerce. Born in Cumberland, Kentucky, his parents moved to Scott county, Illinois. As a young man Mr. WRIGHT in 1847 went into the “farthest west” and settled in what is now Jefferson county. He has lived here practically ever since. He settled in Cedar township at what is now Wooster. For the last twenty-five years he has lived in Fairfield.

He was married in 1856 to Sarah LONG at her home in Cedar township and to them were born four daughters and three sons. The following survive:

Mrs. Eunice SPRAY, of Ottumwa; Mrs Mary HECKTHORNE, of Washington; Mrs Nancy SPRY, of Fairfield; Joseph, Stephen and Jesse of Fairfield. His aged wife also survives.

Mr. WRIGHT has four brothers living. They are: Alfred W., of this city; E. H. of Wichita, Kan.; I. W., of Audebon (sic); Thomas, of Barton county, Missouri, and John who resides in the county.

The funeral will be held tomorrow at ten o'clock a.m., from the home of Joseph WRIGHT. The services will be in charge of Rev. B. L. Nay, of Mediapolis.
