From WILLIS GREGG CORBITT, Portland, Oregon:

John Shelly was born September 7, 1827 near Springfirld, Macoupin Co., Ill., son of George David and Catherine Gabbert Shelley; married October 11, 1847 in Jefferson County, Iowa, Margaret, daughter of Jacob and Nancy Ann (Bonham) Park, born January 9, 1832 in Virginia; died January 10, 1906 Pleasant Hill, Lane County, Oregon. John Shelly moved from Iowa to Oregon, where he arrived September 18, 1848 and settled on Donation Land Claim #1520, November 1, 1852, twelve miles east of Eugene, Oregon. They had 13 children. John and Margaret are buried Pleasant Hill, Lane County, Oregon. One son was Leroy Lewis Shelly, born January 2, 1859 Pleasant Hill, Lane County, Oregon; died September 8, 1897 Condon, Gilliam Co., Oregon. Another son was Weston P. Shelly, May 23, 1857-January 29, 1939; bur. Pleasant Hill Cemetery; married March 25, 1882 Lane County, Oregon, Margaret Crabtree; three children.
