LIBERTYVILLE, May 25. Van, the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Earl HOWARD, died Friday at 3 a.m. of diphtheritic croup... Born in Jan., 1904. Interment in Fell Cemetery. Gerald, the youngest child, who has been dangerously ill, is convalescent.

Note: Birthdate on his gravestone is January 17, 1903. His younger brother Gerald was born in August, 1904, so it appears Van's obituary is in error. The only census little Van appears in, the 1905 IA State Census, is only an index and does not list ages.
