Page TWO, Column 5L. R. HESTON PROMINENT CITIZEN DIES
Lorenzo R. HESTON, prominent local business man and civic leader, died suddenly this morning at about 7:00 o'clock in the University hospital in Iowa City. He had undergone a minor operation last Friday, and was improving well enough to plan on returning home today. Death was due to a heart attack.
Mr. HESTON was a partner in the firm of Heston & Anderson, manufacturers of wood working machines, one of Fairfield's leading industries. The factory was established in 1921. Prior to the founding of this business, Mr. HESTON was a draftsman at the Louden Machinery Company.
At the time of his death, Mr. HESTON was chairman of the Jefferson County Post War Planning Board, president of the Rotary Club, president of the Fairfield Country Club, and an active member other local civic groups. He was a past president of the school board, of which he was a member from 1931 to 1936; past president of the Chamber of Commerce, and the Forum Club; past chairman of the Methodist Board of Turstees; a past member of the Boy Scout Council; at one time a director of the Iowa Loan & Trust Company, and Streator Products Company.
Mr. HESTON was born March 30, 1893 on a farm near Cross Lanes in Jefferson county, the son of Absalom and Emma CARMAN HESTON. He received his education in the Cross Lanes and Fairfield schools. In 1912 he was employed at the local CB&Q freight house, and in 1913 went to the Louden Machinery company where he learned drafting.
He was married on October 10, 1917 to Miss Ruth LARSON. Surviving besides his wife are three children: Emma Lou, John L. and Mary Jane, all at home.
Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Emma HESTON Fairfield; one brother, Albert of Portland, Ore.; a half-brother, W. E. HESTON, Fairfield; and two half sisters, Mrs. May BYRAN (sic - BRYAN), Independence, Kan., and Mrs. Pearl SMITH, Benedict, Minn..
Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 at the Hoskins funeral home, in charge of Rev. A. P. Keast. Interment in Evergreen cemetery.

The evening dinner event scheduled for the Country Club for this evening has been postponed due to the death of Lorenzo HESTON, president of the club.
It is hoped all members will note change in plans.

Notice is hereby given that an instrument, purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Lorenzo R. HESTON, Deceased is now on file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court of Jefferson County, and that Tuesday, June 20th A. D. 1944 at 9:00 o'clock A. M. has been set for proof and final hearing of same.
Witness my hand and the seal of said Court, this 12th day of June, 1944.
