HESTON, COUNTY PIONEER, DIES THIS MORNING
Life-Long Resident Passes Away At Home After Short Illness

Absalom HESTON, one of the pioneer residents of Jefferson county died early this morning at his home at 507 W. Madison. He pad passed his 86th birthday on Jan. 12. Mr. HESTON had been in good health until the last few weeks.

He was born in Indiana and came to this county with his parents when only a few months old. He lived for many years on a farm near Cross Lanes and was a life-long resident of the county. In 1916 Mr. HESTON retired from the farm and has lived in Fairfield since that time.

He is survived by his wife one sister, Jane HESTON of Libertyville ,and six children: Mrs. Carrie IVINS of Leon, Ia.; Mrs. Mae BRYAN of Independence, Kan.; Mrs. Pearl SMITH of Port Angeles, Washington; Albert HESTON of Jennings Lodge, Ore.; and William HESTON and Lorenzo HESTON of Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00, Monday afternoon, Jan. 24, at the Behner Funeral Home, in charge of Rev. C. F. Chitty. Enternment (sic) will be in Evergreen cemetery.

... Absalom HESTON, a former resident of Cross Lanes passed away in Fairfield last Saturday morning. He lived a mile west of the church for many years. Having sold his farm about twenty years ago he and Mrs. HESTON moved to Fairfield where they have since resided.

The funeral was at the Behner funeral home on Monday afternoon at 2 p.m. ...

OBITUARY

ABSALOM HESTON

Absalom HESTON, son of Sameul (sic) and Lucinda HESTON, was born in Indiana on January twelfth 1852. He departed from this life on January twenty-second 1938, aged 86 years and 10 days.

He came to Jefferson county with his parents when only a few months old, and grew to manhood here. For over forty years he lived on a farm near Cross Lanes until 1916 when he retired from the farm and came to Fairfield where he has lived since that time.

In 1874 he ws united in marriage to Sarah ARMSTRONG. To this union were born five children. One daughter Rosa died in early womanhood. The four children who survive him from this union are: Mrs. Mae BRYAN, Independence, Kansas; Mrs. Carrie IVINS of Leon, Iowa; William E. HESTON of Fairfield and Mrs. Pearl SMITH of Port Angeles, Washington.

In 1888 death claimed his first companion.

In 1890 he was united in marriage to Emma CARMAN, who lives to mourn his passing. To this union were born two sons who now survive him; Lorenzo R. HESTON of Fairfield and Albert E. HESTON of Jennings Lodge, Oregon. He also leaves twenty-five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. One sister, Jane HESTON of Libertyville, is now the only remaining member of the family of nine children.

Over fifty years ago he united with the Free Methodist church, in which he was active for many years and a faithful member until his death.

Funeral services were held at the Behner Funeral Home at two o'clock on Monday, Jan. 24th. Rev. C. F. Chitty of the Free Methodist church was in charge of the services. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.
