George Bradfield 1837-1926

BRADFIELD, GOW, ASHMEAD, ALEXANDER, IRELAND

The FAIRFIELD LEDGER, Friday, January 7, 1927, Page 6, col. 2. George Bradfield passed away at his home in Abingdon, Iowa, Dec. 29, 1926. He was born January 16, 1837 in Monroe Co. Ohio, son of Stephen and Nancy Bradfield. Came to Iowa with his parents in 1846 and was a resident of Jefferson County the remainder of his life except for four years he lived in Kansas.

Married, February 19, 1867, Christina Gow, who survives. Five children--Cora Ashmead of Bloomfield, Harry of Fairfield, and F. J. of Birmingham, Iowa. Two sons died in infancy. He also leaves 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. James Alexander of Burlington, Colo. In 1862 he enlisted in Co. F, 3rd Iowa Cavalry, and served to the end of the war.

M.E. Church, Brookville. He was borne to his last resting place in the Abingdon Cemetery by three nephews, Wesley, Glen and Vern Bradfield, and three grandsons, Bruce Bradfield, Fred and Carl Ashmead. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Brooks Ireland of Packwood.
