Thornton was born in Jackson County, Tenn., January 31, 1818, and died at her home in Fairfield, Jefferson County, Iowa, February 1, 1912, aged 94 years and 1 day. Daughter of Felix and Lucy (Rawley) Thornton who were born and reared in North Carolina. In 1838 she accompanied her sister and husband to Iowa and resided with them in Henry County about five miles south of Mt. Pleasant until she married to Samuel Thrash March 31, 1839. In 1843 they moved to Jefferson County and lived on a farm until 1891, and then retired and moved to Fairfield, Iowa. Ten children, only three of whom survive her: Mrs. Samuel Zeigler (nee Eliza Thrash) of Ripon, Calif., John F., Stuttgart, Ark., and Stephen D. of Stockton, Calif....
