Pleasant Plain Man Killed As Tractor Upsets

PLEASANT PLAIN, Ia. -- Joseph P. SHELANGOSKI, 56, Pleasant Plain, was killed Saturday night when the farm tractor he was driving overturned on a county road two miles south of East Pleasant Plain.

SHELANGOSKI had been a member of the county road maintenance crew for many years. A witness said SHELANGOSKI's tractor went off the edge of the road when he turned to look behind him. The machine rolled into the ditch, crushing him beneath it.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's church at East Pleasant Plain in charge of the Rev. Henry B. Geers. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited tonight at 7:30 at the Gould Funeral home in Brighton.

A lifetime resident of the Pleasant Plain area, SHELANGOSKI was born May 11, 1908, the son of Anthony and Constance GLUCH SHELANGOSKI. He was married to Emma EMRY May 2, 1945. She preceded him in death in 1961. In November, 1962, he was married to Mrs. Bertille ZELINSKY. He was a member of St. Joseph’s church and the American Legion. He was a veteran of World War II.

Surviving are his wife and two step-children, Mrs. Florence MOLLER, St. Paul, Iowa; and Harold ZELINSKY, Brighton. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Alex and Vince SHELANGOSKI, Brighton; Bernard SHELANGOSKI, Mt. Pleasant; and Speze (sic - Steve?) SHELANGOSKI, Lockridge; Mrs. Mary HALL and Mrs. Sophia HOBBS, Ottumwa; and Agnes and Celesta SHELANGOSKI, Brighton.

Two brothers preceded him in death.
