Lockridge - Round Prairie Baptist church, located in Jefferson county four miles south of Lockridge and three miles southwest of Glasgow, will observe the 100th anniversary of its founding at a special program Sept. 21.
The church stands on a one acre tract of land donated for church purposes by John Emerson. Throughout the years, formal title to the property was never vested in the church and now heirs of the Emerson estate are signing quit-claim deeds to give the church clear title to the tract.
Emerson was the father of Mrs. Frank Masden, 84, of 309 West Burlington street, Fairfield, and the grandfather of Mrs. Tom Howell, wife of the Jefferson county sheriff and niece of Mrs. Masden. In 1920 Howell and Fred McElwee suggested holding the first homecoming at the church, and the event was made an annual one.
The present building is the second one that has stood on the ground.
