NEWBURG, SAYRE

I am writing a book about an 1840's community near Rockford, Illinois called Newburg. My question is...There are two areas in Iowa with this name or close spelling. How did they get their name? The founder of the Newburg in my area was a Colonel James Sayre... I have not been able to find much info about him. Mahlon
Sayre was one of his relatives who moved to Iowa.
Thank you for your help...
