In The 1978 obituary of Minnie Bell James, born: May 27, 1885 and died, August 12, 1978 in Prairie City, Iowa, it lists her parents as Albert James and Laura Guthrie. But there is nothing about the parents of Laura Guthrie.

In A History of Newton Iowa 1992, on page 534 is a Samuel Guthrie who was married to Susan McQuiston in Iowa about 1864. Susan McQuiston was born in LaGrange County, Ohio about 1844, and arrived in Jasper County, Iowa October 26, 1855.
