Leland Marion Owen died July 4, 2022 at Mercy One Hospice, he was 90 years old.

Leland was born March 24, 1932 in Lapeer, MI to Marion and Ellen Owen. He moved to Davison, MI as a child and graduated from Davison High School. He married Nancy Anglin in 1952, and served two years in the Navy in Boston, MA. Leland attended General Motors Institute in Flint, MI and graduated as a journeyman electrician. He worked at Buick and lived with his family in Flint, MI.

He received Jesus as his Savior in 1961 and in 1962 moved with his wife and three children to Springfield MO, where he attended Baptist Bible College and their fourth child was born. After receiving his BA in Theology, he and his family moved to La Crosse, WI to pastor their first church.

In 1969, Leland and his family moved to Newton, Iowa and later retired from the Maytag Corporation. During these years, he also pastored churches in and around Newton. Some of his favorite services were later in life when he preached, along with his wife, at three Newton nursing homes.

Leland enjoyed studying the Bible, spending time with his family, the Detroit Lions football, and watching mysteries, Gaither Music and Lawrence Welk DVD’s with his wife. He especially enjoyed Branson vacations with his family.

Those left to miss Leland are his wife of 69 years, son James (Angie) of Cincinnati, OH, daughter Linda (Randy) Hummel and granddaughter Ashley of Marion, IA, a sister Margaret (Gary) Tidball of MI and sister-in-law Lynette Owen of TX. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas, 2001 and daughter Peggy, 2011, his parents, brother Robert and two brothers in infancy.

At Leland’s request, no services will be held and his ashes will be buried at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel, IA. ~ The Newton (IA) Daily News, 05 July 2022.
