Mrs. Julia Hanawalt Passed Away Monday; Simon Faidley Tuesday.
Hanawalt, Julia (King)The community was called upon to mourn the death of two of its residents this week, Mrs. Julia Hanawalt passing away on Monday and Simon Faidley dying on Tuesday.
Mrs. Julia Hanawalt.Mrs. Julia Ann Hanawalt, passed away Monday, October 1, 1923 at her home east of Colfax from diabetes from which she had suffered for some time. She was 71 years of age at her passing and the wife of George W. Hanawalt who passed away some 10 years ago. He was a veteran of the Civil War.
She leaves to mourn her loss six children and three step-children, namely; Garrett Roland, Elmer Eugene who reside at the home of their mother; Ralph L. of Prairie City; Mrs. Zola Iola Young of Colfax; Mrs. John Dimond of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Scott Good of Colfax; James Hanawalt of Colfax; Mrs. John Fenner of Marshalltown and Mrs. James Kale of Mason City. She is survived by thirty grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She united with the Christian church of Colfax in 1898. She and Mr. Hanawalt resided at the old home place for a period of more than fifty years.
She was a good faithful mother who will be greatly missed not only by her children but by many friends as well.
Funeral services were conducted at the Slaughter Cemetery Wednesday afternoon at 2 O'clock with Rev. Q. V. Williamson, a former Christian Minister conducting the services. The ladies of the Christian Church furnished the music. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Slaughter Cemetery.
