Ralph Ivan Hanawalt, 80, died Monday, October 1st at the home of his son George, near Mitchellville.

Mr. Hanawalt had been a sufferer of diabetes for some time and underwent surgery recently for the removal of a leg as a result of the disease. His condition had gradually failed since his return from the hospital and the end came Monday.

He was a coal miner and farmer residing on a farm east of Colfax. He was born May 18, 1876 at Colfax and was a long time resident of this community.

He is survived by his wife, five sons, Ralph of Des Moines, George at Mitchellville, Darrell, Harold, and Robert of Colfax, 1 brother Elmer Hanawalt and three sisters, Mrs. Kathryn Good and Zola Young all of Colfax and Daisy Diamond of Omaha, Nebraska. Seventeen grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild also mourn his passing.

Mr. and Mrs. Hanawalt had observed their Golden Wedding anniversary a few years ago. Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 2:00 PM at the Bumgardener Funeral Home with Rev. W. L. Hawn Pastor of the Methodist Church officiating.

Music will be furnished by Miss Mable Kaldenberg soloist with Mrs. Frank B. Evans, accompanist.

Pall bearers will be Joe Laws, George Weirick, Ray Buckley, Eugene Burnett, Walter Beals, and Joe Stayner.

Burial will be in the Colfax Cemetery.
