Very simply stated...Fred loved family and friends. He was always leaving them with a smile or a laugh. Besides a great sense of humor, Fred was known for being able to provide common sense for family problems that needed answers. He was always there to support in any capacity. Everyone has their own unique and special "Fred" story, but the common theme in all of them is they were full of fun and laughter.

Fred was also a great cook with homemade breads and pastas as his most special treats! When complimented, he would simply reply, "This is what I do!" Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve were a much cherished tradition for everyone at Fred and Diane's home.

Grandsons, Connor and Nathan have brought fun, mischief, and laughter to the Martinson gatherings. Ellen and Macy will be teaching the boys all the tricks they pulled on their Dad for April Fool's Day while sharing how Fred got them back!

Fred loved traveling with family, and his wife, Diane, of 43 years. Fred and Diane met on a blind date, and created a bond together that most only dream of. Fred also enjoyed tailgating at the Iowa Speedway, in addition to his annual golf outing with his buddies.

All who met Fred immediately valued his friendship. He was a good man in the finest sense. He was our ballast. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 30 July 2016.
