Stephen’s memorial service with military honors will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, August 3rd at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 10-11 a.m., Wednesday, August 3rd at the funeral home and following the memorial service and military honors with a lunch at the American Legion, 1101 W. 4th St. S. in Newton.

Memorials to American Legion Post 111 or to VA Central Iowa Health Care System or to the donor’s choice may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home, please add, Attn: Hathaway Family on the envelope.

Stephen, the son of Arthur and Jeanette (Walker) Hathaway, was born in Muncie, Indiana. He served his country in the U. S. Marine Corps during the Viet Nam War.

Stephen was a flooring installer, working for Long’s Custom Carpet in Newton. He was a past member of the American Legion Post 111, VFW Post 1655, and the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed going to the grandkids’ events, duck hunting, mushroom hunting, gardening and cooking.

Stephen died on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was 68. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Those left to honor Stephen’s memory are his daughter, Gina Hathaway Stewart of Newton; two grandchildren, Ashley Nicole Cumpton of Knoxville and Eli Stewart of Newton; and his two brothers, Dan Hathaway of Grinnell and Mike Hathaway of Goshen, Indiana. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 28 July 2016.
