MRS. ADALINE HARTER
Adaline Gardner was born in Ohio, March 22, 1840, and died at the home of her son John C. Harter, at Hosper, Iowa, March 2, 1919, aged seventy-eight years, eleven months, and eight days.
She was united in marriage to George Harter August 20, 1857. To this union twelve children were born, six of whom have proceeded her in death. Her husband passed away in September, 1894. [Transcriber's Note: his obituary gives his death date as June 24th, 1894.]
The living children are: Stilwell Harter, Mingo, Iowa; Almon Harter, Long Beach, Calif.; Rachel Peavy, Wichita, Kans.; Jake J. Harter, Perry, Iowa; John C. Harter, Hosper, Iowa; and Clarissa Warner, of Maxwell. Besides these, she leaves three sisters: Mrs. Helen Eatwell of Mingo, Iowa; Mrs. Rachel Cutsinger, of Sheldon, Iowa; Mrs. Charles Jarvil, of Laurens, Iowa; and two brothers; Robert Gardner, of Clear Lake, Iowa; and Dayton Gardner, of Scottsbluff, Neb.
Mrs. Harter was at one time a member of the Presbyterian church of Maxwell, later moving to Collins and transferring her membership to the M. P. church of that place. Some time after this she made her home for a while with her daughter here. Poor health deprived her of the privilege of church attendance and for this reason her membership was not removed from the Collins church.
She was a loving mother, a devoted companion, a good and kind neighbor, and although a great sufferer was always patient and uncomplaining.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church at Maxwell, Wednesday forenoon, March 5th, conducted by Dr. C. Arnold Stewart, with interment at the Graham cemetery near Mingo.

CARD OF THANKSThe children, brothers and sisters of Mrs. Adaline Harter desire to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the kindness and assistance of neighbors and friends during their late bereavement in the loss of their beloved mother and sister.
Transcriber's Note: Although her obituary states she was born in Ohio, a delayed certificate (requested copy) of her son John Clayton Harter's birth (dated Dec. 30, 1941) gives both her birthplace and that of her husband as Johnson County, Indiana. However, since her son supplied this info, it could be incorrect.
